AQUA CLEANSE

This quick and easy detoxification process expels toxins from the body’s organs and helps it to re-balance; it aims to improve, among other things, liver and kidney function through an electromagnetic detoxification process carried out on the feet. This can raise energy levels, encourage weight loss and enhance mental clarity, skin tone and well-being. Also recommended by many as an effective hangover cure. Results are clearly evident even after one treatment.

What happens during a treatment?
You will be asked to place your feet in a bowl of clean, warm water, to which is added some ordinary salt. A small machine with an electromagnet is placed in the bowl and the therapist will then set the process in motion. Whilst the process is taking place you will be asked to stand up for a short time each time the machine moves on to the next stage of the cycle. The water will change from clear, to yellow, to brown to black and you will see small particles floating on top; this is a result of the electric dialysis taking place, drawing out toxins and fat through the 2,000 sweat glands on the sole of each foot.

When the cycle has finished, your feet will be cleaned and dried; you will then be asked to move over to a reclining chair and you will receive a relaxing foot massage, which will also help the detoxification process to continue.

HOPI EAR CANDLING

Also known as Thermo-Auricular Therapy, and widely practiced by GP’s in Europe and America for many ear, nose and throat problems, Hopi Ear Candle therapy is used as an alternative to conventional treatments such as antibiotics, ear syringing and grommets. A deeply relaxing and soothing experience.

It is known that ear candling was practised by many ancient civilizations including the Aztecs, Greeks, Romans and Aborigines. The ancient Egyptians used reeds from the Nile coated with wax, packing mud around the ears to form a seal. Hollow twigs or cones made from glazed clay were also used to carry herbs or incense into the ears. It is generally accepted that the ear candling procedure was used not only for cleansing the ear canal but also for spiritual purification before initiation rites and rituals.

Ear candling was also widely practised in Italy, Spain, Romania and Asia, using materials such as rolled tobacco leaves and waxed cloth or paper, and these methods are still in use in some places.

According to old shamanic custom, traditional knowledge such as the ear candling procedure was passed on in oral form and through paintings. Historical pictorial records clearly show the use of ear candles in cultures across the globe. The most famous painting of the ear candling procedure is shown on an ancient rock painting in the Grand Canyon.

Traditional practices faded out in many parts of the world, but in America some members of the native Hopi Indians kept the ear candling tradition alive. The Hopi are a native American tribe who live primarily on a 1.5 million acre reservation in north-eastern Arizona. They are renowned for their extensive knowledge of healing and their spiritual lifestyle and they continue to practise some aspects of their traditional ceremonial culture. The Hopi candles used today are named after this tribe who (with the professional involvement of a German company called Biosun) first introduced this gentle therapy to the West. The ear candles have evolved from the use of fire, heat, smoke and herbs, which all have healing properties in their own right.

Only genuine Biosun candles, which have been on the market for over twenty years, are used. They are around 22cm long, 8mm in diameter and have a burning time of 10-12 minutes. They are made of cotton, pure beeswax, honey extract and traditional herbs such as sage, St John's wort and chamomile; there is also a range of candles with the addition of pure essential oils such as incense and cedar, mandarin and rosewood, orange and lemon, and lavender and rosemary, amongst others. Safety features include maximum burn line around the candle and a specially developed safety filter to ensure simple and safe application. Biosun ear candles are regularly tested by independent institutes and are registered as medical products class IIa according to Medical Device Directive 93/42/eEC.

How do the candles work?
Being a hollow tune or cone, the centre of an ear candle is simply a column of air rather than a solid mass. When lit at the top, the rising air column inside the candle begins to heat up. As the candle burns down, it continues to heat up the top of the rising air column in the centre of the candle; this column creates a very mild suction action at the base, which helps to loosen compacted earwax. At the same time, the beeswax and other ingredients (which are infused in the fabric of the tube or cone) are vapourised. These ingredients make some of the air inside the candle heavier and it spirals downwards into the ear canal, setting up pressure waves and gentle sound waves from the sizzling ingredients, which massage the eardrum. Since even the slightest movement of the eardrum is carried onwards to the middle and inner ear, all of the structures of the inner ear receive a gentle massage. As the ear, nose, sinuses and throat are all interconnected, this has the effect of regulating balancing pressure in the ears as well as the whole of the upper respiratory tract.
